My Story About The Storm

The Long Night Of No Sleep!

On the 11th of June 2014 a huge storm hit Auckland.

“Goodnight mum and dad” I said before I tucked myself in my stack of blankets. Soon all the lights turned off and the whole house was fast  asleep. Except me!.

The wind was as strong as a hurricane blowing the trees this way and that way. The tall tree next to my window kept on banging on my room. BANG! BANG! BANG!. While I was  tossing and turning the wind got stronger and stronger. Pushing all the tall trees more and more. As soon as I fell asleep more and more wind blew and woke me up again!. WOOOOOOO! WOOOO! WOOO!. “HHHHH!” “All I want to do is sleep!”.

I rub my eyes and open the curtain next to my bed to see what happend. “OHHH my god!” Lots of branches and leaves everywhere. I lay back in my bed. “ Thank goodness a tree never fall on my room “ “whew”. I tell my dad that a tree in going to collapse and its the tree next to my room!. My dad goes outside and has a look. “ NO! it’s not going to collapse your just feeling that because you're scared”. “ Oh sorry”. So I went back to bed.

Next morning OMG! there are branches and leaves and more branches. Luckily a tree didn't fall down like the last hurricane. “ Whew”.

The storm was the second biggest storm that hit auckland. The Zoo was closed because all the animal enclosures were broken and a big tree fell down. This storm was bad. It destroyed peoples houses.

This is the zoo. All the animals are ok. But the zoo keepers have lots of cleaning to do.

I hope that there won’t be another storm like this. Next time there might be a tsunami or a flood or an earthquake.  Luckily it was just a storm. The storm went all around New Zealand. I think that Auckland had the worst storm.  Some houses had a blackout and there power lines got cut.
The people who cuts the trees that fall down, they had to spend there whole day cutting trees down the next day.

The storm swept a 12 year old  girl away when she walking to school.  The emergency services in Auckland city attended over 600 calls after midnight. One child got sent to hospital after a tree fell through the roof. The band of heavy rain and wind is now  moving south.
There are about 40,000 homes on Thursday   without power in Auckland. The storm left lots of damage. Some people said that it was a tornado.
